Landscape Architecture

First Year Fall Studio

LA 170

“Introduction to traditional (analog) communication media for landscape architecture, including methods, techniques, skills, and tools used in design expression, exploration, and generation.” - Cal Poly Course Description

This studio consisted of constructing a topographical landscape and then designing a development on it. The process included makings topo maps, bubble diagrams, a 1’’ = 50’ scale model, plan view diagrams, section, oblique and perspective drawings.

First Year Spring Studio

LA 202

“Introduction to the principles, methods and elements of two- and three-dimensional design in order to communicate intended concepts and meanings. Exploration of the basic design elements including composition, design process and the creation of spatial settings..” - Cal Poly Course Description

This studio was focused on the more conceptual side of design with a focus on composition, balance, spatiality, and art in design. The design concept was a garden in the character of the International Garden Festival at Redford Gardens (CAN). The process included a precedent study, making study models, conceptual diagrams, multiple 5’ =1’’ models, section and perspective drawings.

Second Year Fall Studio

LA 204

“Continuation of ideas introduced in LA 202 and LA 203 with the introduction of the principles of design theory, landscape ecology and technical applications. Problems of increasing complexity incorporate critical and creative problem solving, the relationship of aesthetics, response to human needs and design for sustainable environments..” - Cal Poly Course Description

The studio had both conceptual and technical focus. Conceptually the project was focused on the utility of a landscape, where we were assigned a specific person with a hobby to design a backyard for. On the technical side we used Rhino to 3d model our backyard and Lumion to render the 3d model.
